Last week saw this exact fixture, albeit in the Chatham Cup, end in a 2-1 victory for Birkenhead United. The defending champions progress to the quarter finals, while for Three Kings, it is a case of what might’ve been after taking a 1-0 lead.
Onwards and upwards though for Three Kings, as now their attention must turn solely to the league and the battle for survival.
The previous league match, away at Bay Olympic, saw a 1-1 draw. Three Kings will be ruing some missed opportunities in the first half that may have seen a positive result for them, but with many teams so evenly placed, that point could yet prove vital.
Three Kings have arguably the toughest match this weekend among their relegation rivals, at least on paper. Last week’s match underlined how much Three Kings has improved this season (considering the 5-0 loss the last time these teams played), and they will be desperate for a win to ensure they can either overtake, or at least keep in touch with, the teams immediately above them.
Birkenhead United however still has an outside chance of winning the league so will be giving nothing away.
