The round 2 fixture between local rivals Three Kings and Central United at Kiwitea Street saw Three Kings emerge victorious 3-2 in a gripping encounter. A lot has changed since that match though.
After a slow start to the season (by their own high standards), Central has been undefeated in their last 7 games, during which time they’ve scored 20 goals and conceded 5. Unfortunately for Three Kings, during that same time the team has only managed to win 2 games.
Ultimately this sees the team in a real dog fight at the moment in the bottom half of the table, with only 2 points separating 5 teams. Central is just above this territory, though still a way behind league leaders Onehunga Sports.
In addition, the personnel in both squads has changed drastically. With the national league over for another season, Central has named an extremely formidable squad – arguably one of the strongest to have been named in recent history. Three Kings have made some astute signings too, and will need them to fire if they’re to beat Central.
Points are crucial for both teams given we’re in the second half of the season now, and how tight the points table is.
