THREE KINGS ACADEMY IS CHANGING

The world of football has become a much more sophisticated and professional arena. It recognises that technical, tactical and physical development is paramount if young players are to compete on the local, national and perhaps even the world stage. To become part of the global development of the game, our young players need regular, skilled and monitored development programmes. The Three Kings Academy has made a start in this general direction.

It is now time to take the academy concept to the next level. To do this we are implementing a three tier approach to the academy. This will consist of:-

1. High Performance Squad

2. The Academy

3. Goalkeeping School of Excellence

1. High Performance Squad

From March 2008 invites will be sent out to players in our top teams of each grade and they will be make up our new High Performance Squad. The Trials in Feb/March will help with this selection process along with past knowledge and experience of players. Players can expect invitations within the first few weeks of March. Those not invited and anyone else are able to join the Academy which will operate in a similar manner as it is now. (Movement from The Academy into the High Performance Squad and vice-versa is possible and will be based on ability and attitude)

The High Performance Squad will address the need for strategies to develop players at the elite level. Developing these players requires the appropriate technical, tactical and physical age related instruction.

The players over the age of 12 will also be taught game understanding, dynamic and integral technique, tactical awareness. They need to learn how to train and much emphasis will be placed on speed, both physical speed and speed of thought. Whilst those U12 will receive much more technical work in order to give these players the basis for more tactical work.

Steve Cain will be Head Coach of this High Performance Squad and assistant coaches will have at minimum a Level Three NZ Football Qualification.

Proposed Timetable For The High Performance Squad

The High Performance Squad will be designed around the theory of Periodisation in Football Training. This breaks the year (Known as a Macrocycle) into 4 distinct periods known as Mesocycles: General Prep Phase/Specific Prep Phase/Pre-Competition Phase and Competition Phase. Below is a general overview of how these mesocycles will fit into next year starting Aril 2008 and the general focus of each of these Training Blocs.

The Academy will be based on a participative approach to coaching and follow the principles of Teaching Games For Understanding (TGFU) which enables kids to learn through playing and questioning rather than instruction and drill repetition. The programme in Term2 has been developed through Auckland Football Federation Player Development Scheme and will involve a lot of small sided games, technical work and will have a ''playing to learn' focus. It will operate similar to the present Academy where all ages and abilities will be given the opportunity to learn by playing. All coaches will have at minimum a Level 2 qualification in coaching

3. Goalkeeping School of Excellence

CLICK HERE FOR AN ENROLMENT FORM

Three Kings United is proud to announce the beginning of a new training scheme called the High Performance Squad (HPS) which will work with the players of the clubs top teams and players. As part of this new scheme we have acquired the services of George Smith (whose resume below speaks for it-self) who will work with all Three Kings Goalkeepers who wish to attend.

This Goalkeeping School is open to all Goalkeepers at the club and each will receive an invitation in early March, clarifying dates and times for the upcoming Term 2 sessions. Sessions will cost approximately $12 per session and this is extraordinary value given the experience and pedigree of the coach.

George Smith

- Waitakere United goalkeeper coach for the past two seasons
- Ex NZ national women's team goalkeeper coach
- Runs "Keeper's Ball' goalkeeper academy
- Current goalkeeper coach, NZ under 15 & under 16  teams

Enrolments and Cost

Academy,High Performance Squad and Goalkeeping School Of Excellence will operate on a term by term basis with enrolment and payment for each term required as opposed to paying for the entire year in advance. This allows players and parents to experience what we have to offer for a 8-10 weeks and decide whether or not to continue. The cost for each will be the same but has not yet been finalised, it should be approximately $12 per session. As mentioned earlier, the High Peformance Squad will be by Invitation only and this letter will include an enrolment form, a letter and enrolment form will also be sent to all the clubs goalkeepers for the School Of Excellence. Enrolment Forms for The Academy are avaliable through the link below.
