With three games to go in the Northern Region Football League (Women), TKU need only a draw this weekend to win the league.
Come along and support our women at Glenfield Rovers AFC (McFetridge Park – 111 Archers Road, Glenfield) on Sunday 31 July at 1.00pm Our team is unbeaten to date, and Martine Puketapu remains the league’s golden boot with 20 goals from 15 games.
Saturday August 6 will see Three Kings United host North Wellington AFC in a Chatham Cup quarter final.
For Three Kings, it is the first time that the team has reached this stage of the competition since that glorious run in 2009 when they narrowly lost in the final to Wellington Olympic.
Since then, the team has generally advanced as far as the round before the quarter finals before being knocked out.
One can draw many parallels between the current team and that from 2009 - such as an impressive run in the league, classy performers all over the park, a great blend of experience and youth, and an ability to be able to close off matches.
Three Kings' road to the quarter final has seen victories over Onehunga Sports, Metro FC and Te Atatu AFC; all opposition has pushed Three Kings hard, but the results give an indication of the team's ability and mental strength.
North Wellington have equalled their best run in the Chatham Cup by qualifying for the quarter finals.
Their road here has seen them emerge victorious over Seatoun AFC, Kapiti Coast United, Upper Hutt City and Palmerston North Marist. Wellington football pundit Bernard Chapman describes North Wellington as a club on the up - one that has invested a lot of resources in their youth over the past couple of seasons, and are now starting to reap the benefits.
For Three Kings, strikers Allan Pearce and Max Manko have been in great goal scoring form and will hope that can continue.
North Wellington will be hoping to pull off yet another upset and continue their magical run.
The beauty of cup football is that anything is possible and this match promises to be one of high drama and intensity.
