9th Grade Onehunga-Mangere Digger Douglas Tournament.

The two Three Kings United 9th grade boys development teams played in their first tournament of the season on Sunday.
The popular and highly competitive tournament featured all of the strong clubs around the auckland area - East Coast Bays, Uni Mount, Western Springs, Metro Wynrs, Birkenhead, Eastern Suburbs to name a few.
Out of the 24 teams that were competing both Three Kings made it through the group stages, after their 5 games, to occupy one of the top two positons that led to the Championship knockout stages.  Unfortunately the Silver team were narrowly defeated in the quarter finals 2-0 against a big, strong and highly competitve Birkenhead side.
The teal team went on to convincingly beat  East Coast Bays in the quarter finals and Uni Mount in the semi.
Waiting for them in the final were the much fancied Birkenhead team.
Two early goals saw Birkenhead take control of the game before Kristiana Hanna scored to bring one back.
Connor Sykes scored a good individual goal before half time to tie the game up.
Mid way through the second half, and our boys losing on the "interesting" corner count rule, we scored a great goal when Connor smashed a quickly taken free kick into the roof of the net.
Birkenhead threw everything they had in the closing minutes but our boys showed great passion, organisational skills and intelligence and could have easily extended their lead.
On the final whistle the boys celebrated a great 3-2 come from behind victory and ensured that they brought the trophy home to Keith Hay Park.
