Dear Park User,
Following your feedback, we understand there is a significant demand for car parking at Keith Hay Park that is often in excess of supply.
The existing Arundel Street car park is also in poor condition and urgently requires repair.
To address these issues, the car park is being upgraded and extended into a newly purchased area of parkland adjacent to the Arundel Street entry and into the area currently occupied by the old outdoor paddling pool.
The car park upgrade will increase the number of available parks from 181 to 243 and will also improve the amenity of the area.
It will incorporate new tree planting, and planted swales to treat stormwater run-off before it reaches Oakley Creek.
A pedestrian plaza with seating and planting will be created next to the Tristar gymnasium and Cameron Pools and a new toilet constructed in the southern part of the car park.
Construction work is expected to start on the 9th December and continue through to June 2014.
There will be increased heavy traffic on Arundel Street during this time and unavoidable disruption to park users. However, construction will be staged to minimise the inconvenience to park users. Staging will mean that at least 100 car parks will be available at all times during the upgrade (Please refer to the plan for available parking areas and cyclist/pedestrian access routes during the first stage of works)
The existing toilets within the car park will be replaced by a new toilet close to the southern fields. Until this facility is completed, alternative toilets in the changing rooms just south of the playground will be available during park hours.
Please note that hours of construction are Mondays to Saturdays, 7.30am- 6pm.
During the construction period, park users will find alternative options for parking in the Rainford St carpark, the Noton Road carpark and the Richardson Road carpark adjacent to the kindergarten.
Users may also like to consider public transport options, please refer to AT Public Transport Journey Planner to organize your trip (http://www.maxx.co.nz/journey-planner.aspx ) for bus connections to Keith Hay Park.
We also encourage users to car pool or to use alternatives to vehicle transport where possible during the construction period.
