The 9th Grade Boy’s premier team, TKU “Storm”, had a memorable day at the Glenfield Tournament on Sunday 25 of September.
The day began with the realisation they were in the “pool of death” In with two of Auckland’s best 9th grade teams, a quick talk from the coach, telling them they were good enough to beat all comers, certainly gave them belief. They won the pool play with two comprehensive wins and a respectable 1:1 draw against our long standing rivals Manurewa Lightening. All the hard work and training the boys have been doing has really payed off, with there set pieces being very well executed.
The semi-final was between the Fencibles first 9th Grade Team, the boys were keen to get even with them after we lossed in a penalty shoot out a few weeks ago against them. The Storm emerged victorious, and played some real entertaining football, the TKU goal was never threatened, with the bulk of the play in the Fencibles half for the whole game.
The Final was a physical affair between Eastern Suburbs Premier team and the Storm, and a Storm certainly came blowing in. Although our boys were physically smaller than a lot of the Suburbs boys, they did not allow themselves to be out muscled by the bigger lads, a special mention must be made of Kobi Sullivan who put some good, clean, hard tackles in, to thwart Suburbs few attempts on our goal.
The Storm went into half time a goal in front from a great effort by Jordan Ryan Kidd. The second half began with the Storm brimming with confidence and a belief that this was there tournament. They dominated the second half with most of the play being in the Suburbs half; the passing between them was a joy to watch, another goal was going to come, and it did with another beautiful shot from Jordan, and it was 2:0, with the clock running down quickly.
A well deserved win for the “Storm”. It must be noted the team played very well defensively and only conceded 2 goals for the whole day, against some very good opposition.
Definitely an all round team effort, with all players contributing to the day’s victory.
TKU “Storm v Eastern Suburbs 2:0 (Jordan Ryan Kidd 2)
